What is Invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring?

Invasive blood pressure (IBP) measurement involves direct arterial catheterization to provide continuous, beat-to-beat pressure monitoring. Unlike non-invasive methods, invasive BP measurement delivers highly accurate real-time data essential for cardiovascular research and critical care studies.

Human invasive blood pressure monitoring typically uses a pressure transducer connected to an intra-arterial catheter. The transducer converts mechanical pressure into an electrical signal that can be recorded, displayed, and analyzed. This technique allows researchers to capture systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and detailed waveform morphology.

ADInstruments provides complete invasive blood pressure monitoring equipment including BP Amp signal conditioners, Millar Mikro-Cath pressure catheters, and the specialized Blood Pressure Add-On for LabChart - giving you everything needed for publication-quality invasive BP monitoring research.
